Word Study: Cacophony

Defined as "harsh or discordant sound: dissonance; harshness in the sounds of words or phrases" in the Miriam Webster dictionary. I read this word in the section about Dziga Vertov (Nowell-Smith 92-3): ". . . the futurist cult of noises was given a revolutionary tinge by Proletkult as part of the 'art production,' and urban cacophonies remained significant for Vertov throughout the 20s."
