Questions for Rick Minnich

1. I read on IMDB.com that you moved to Berlin in 1990. Why did you make that move and how has it impacted your filmmaking and storytelling?

2. What inspired you to become a filmmaker, and what particularly inspired you make documentary films?

3. You have made two films based in Missouri, Homemade Hillbilly Jam (2005) and Heaven on Earth (2000). Why here? Why now?

4. What is it like to co-direct and co-write a film? What are the benefits and drawbacks?

In class, I would enjoy hearing about anything he has to say on the subject of filmmaking, but especially 1.) how to unveil your underlying motivations for wanting to make a film, 2.) discovering the universal elements in your personal story to appeal to a wider audience, 3.) how to work with a music composer, and 4.) getting your finished film "out there."
